Questioning the Costs

Martin Shore

“And then, there is the cost, estimated between 50 and 200
billion dollars, with the US already facing a 300 billion dollar deficit.”

Just
this once I’d like to know
where does all the money go?
Does it simply
disappear,
or is some madman minting
ten million solid gold pricks
somewhere in the
Neveda desert?
Do aging white men in pin-striped suits
and identical striped ties
stand to profit from tragedies?
Does Exxon really give a fuck about wildlife?
Did
Mitsubishi manufacture the Zero fighter?
Did Porsche design panzers for Hitler’s
Reich?
Why do corporations win every war?
When energy companies ripped off
California
wouldn’t you like to know who got rich?
Did Dick Cheney roll over in his
sleep
when all those retirement funds turned to ash?
Why are former Enron
executives
building mansions in Florida
instead of breaking rock on a chain
gang?
Correct me if I’m wrong but
didn’t our tax dollars help Saddam fight
Iran?
Didn’t our tax dollars help
build Iran’s military under the Shah?
Haven’t
our tax dollars
supported genicide for the past fifty years
in right wing regimes
all over the world?
And isn’t it all, including this latest war
which threatens the
entire world,
about selfishness, greed and money?
And finally, haven’t we had
enough?
Haven’t we digested enough of this shit?
